Resource Information
Articles & PERIODICALS, Books, Archives and CD-Roms
This section provides a listing of resource information used to compile the website.
A vast amount of source material was accessed and purchased online including the National Archives Library, Washington D C, books, CD-Roms, regimental and company histories, short biographies, maps, Official Records and numerous articles and periodicals.
Articles were supplied from monthly magazines such as Military Modelling, The Civil War Times Illustrated and Military History. It was an article entitled ëSunday Picnic Uniforms' in Military Modelling – October 1987, which inspired Jonathan Soffes' initial interest in First Bull Run and the eventual development of the website. Deanne Blanton, of the National Archives Library, Washington D. C., provided articles on various companies from the Supplement to the Official Records of the Union and Confederate Armies.
The majority of the books that were purchased were rare or out of print and were therefore difficult to obtain. However, Bookguy.com, owned by Ed O'Dwyer, provided an excellent service searching for these books.
The availability of CD-Roms has enabled the Official Records of the Union and Confederate Armies to be accessed by the general public worldwide providing extensive detailed reports on company organisation and assignments during the battle.
The purchase of new articles, periodicals, books and CD-Roms wil be added to the website when they become available.
